Write Club welcomes anybody who wishes to take part in our events and community. By becoming a member, you agree to uphold our values and help ensure that Write Club remains a supportive, inclusive, and inspiring space for everyone. As part of our membership, you help create the community that people want to spend their time within. Of everything we do, these values are the most important to us.

As a baseline, we adopt a zero tolerance policy:
No sexism
No racism
No ableism
No ageism
No homophobia
No transphobia
No fatphobia
No misogyny
No hatefulness
We pledge to make our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
We strive to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.
As hosts, we are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our commiments and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behaviour we deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.
Participants found to be violating these ideals may be asked to leave or have their memberships suspended or revoked.
Write Club exists to bring people together through writing, creativity, and shared experience. Our community is built on shared values of community, kindness, accountability and accessibility. As members of Write Club, you play an important role in protecting and strengthening this environment.
By joining the Write Club membership, we ask you to uphold the following principles:
-
Write Club is a space for writers and creatives of all backgrounds and all levels of experience. As Members we ask you, where possible, to introduce yourself to those that you have not met before. To make them feel welcome in the space and to include them in any conversation.
-
Empathy is at the heart of Write Club. We ask Members to treat attendees with kindness, patience, understanding and respect. As hosts and members, we encourage never to assume, and feel free to ask. If you get something wrong by accident, that’s OK - we all do - simply apologise.
-
We celebrate diversity in all its forms. We will not tolerate discrimination, exclusion, or prejudice of any kind. If you ever see this occurring, please make this known to either Susanna or Matt so that it can be properly witnessed and addressed.
-
We strive to ensure that our events and spaces are as accessible and inclusive as possible. We ask you to be mindful of others’ needs, capacities and tolerances, and to help create an environment where everyone feels able to participate fully.
-
At Write Club, we encourage openness, exploration and curiosity. Members should approach discussions and creative work with respect for differing perspectives and experiences. Contrasting views are subjective and encouraged. If, however, you feel that the presence of a viewpoint or opinion is detrimental to you and your sense of wellbeing, we ask that you make this conversation known to the hosts.
-
Write Club is an event where alcohol is served, but please be aware that other participants may not want to drink alcohol and that excessive alcohol consumption may at times contribute to inappropriate behaviour. Please ensure that the space remains welcoming, convivial and to be responsible.
-
We abide by each of our partners' rules and regulations. Each have signing in procedures for external guests that you consent to in order to attend Write Club. Aggressive or rude behaviour towards staff and other members will not be tolerated. There is a zero tolerance policy in regards to drug use. Members that violate these rules and regulations will be ejected from the venue and may face a ban.

We ask that if you need to use your phones to make calls, check social media messages or review things for work that you step out of the session to do so.
We understand the urge to finesse what you have written, to make it as good as it can be as it is spoken aloud. However, as members, we ask that you set an example and finish your pieces before 9PM and stay present and attentive for other writers’ work.

We’re aware that things happen. We ask though to let us know as soon as you are not able to attend an event so that your spot can be made available to someone on the waitlist. As we grow in numbers, this is important for us: when someone is booked in for an event then doesn’t contact us, and doesn’t turn up, we lose the ability to offer a spot to someone on the waitlist and it affects our standing with the venue. Please be aware if there is a pattern of recurrent cancellations, you will lose your access to priority booking.

If you are running late we ask that you text Matt to let us know what your ETA will be. As a member of Write Club we ask you to reflect our own values, and be respectful of those who have made time and space to arrive on time. Anything over half an hour late may result in not being able to access the event.

We understand the want to share this space with others in your life that you feel may enjoy or benefit from Write Club and the Membership Program. We’d love to meet them.
To join the membership we ask that each person attend one Write Club event. After they’ve attended the session and they’ve shown the interest in joining the membership, we will be in touch to let them know whether we have the capacity to welcome them. To do so, please contact Matt.
