In August 2026, The Groucho Club in partnership with Write Club launched their first residency initiative.
A grand prize offered one successful applicant a month-long stay at The Groucho Club’s iconic Soho hotel, £1500 in food and beverage credit to be spent at the Club and dedicated mentorship provided by Write Club over the course of August.
We believed the residency would create the perfect writing space for one lucky candidate.
We were wrong.
After receiving over 450 applications, each with a 500 word writing sample, the selection committee read 225,000 words and whittled them down to create a shortlist of 15 extraordinarily talented writers.
Based on the astonishing quality of work submitted, The Groucho Club made the incredible decision to widen the initiative and create prizes for every writer who was shortlisted.
Instead of supporting just one writer, the residency provided space, time and the invitation for 15 writers to come together at The Groucho Club for the entirety of August
The month concluded with a night of readings, dinner and drinks whereby every person who had applied was invited to The Groucho Club for a celebration of the residency.
